In a quiet neighborhood somewhere on this earth, a little girl was watering plants. Little did she know that there were two pairs of eyes watching her.
“Sadie O’ Connor,” whispered twelve year old Frank to himself. He and his little sister, Kate, were hiding behind the bushes. He had a crush on Sadie. Sadie was only eleven, but to him she looked like a Barbie doll.
“What are we doing here?” Kate asked.
Instead of answering, Frank got something from his pocket. It was a straw and some miniature pellets. He put a pellet inside a straw then blew as hard as he could. “Ouch!!!!” cried Sadie. Little Kate laughed thinking it was the right thing to do.
“You creeps! Wait ‘til I catch you then I’d water you down!” cried Sadie.
“Not!!!!” the siblings shouted, then ran as fast as they could. Sadie was mad. She ran after them. They all ran fast. In a flash, the bright blue skies turned gray. Then it started to rain. The roar of thunder was the loudest ever. The three kids looked for shelter without looking back.
They kept on running until they reached a cave they’ve never seen before. As they entered the grassy cave they miraculously became dry, but they were too bothered to notice. Kate started to cry. Frank looked to see if Sadie was crying too, but Sadie was calm as calm could be. He wanted Sadie to cry so that he could comfort her too, but he ran out of luck.
He walked to the entrance of the cave, but was shocked to see a river flowing.
“I don’t remember passing through a river...plus it was bright and sunny a while ago,” he said quite confused.
“Wait! We’re not even wet,” Sadie said noticing it for the first time.
     “That’s strange,” said Frank.
“I don’t care…my feet hurt,” Kate whimpered like a baby. Frank was so worried about her. She was ten years old, but she was small for her age.
“Hush…” The young girl looked at him then slowly stopped crying.
Sadie’s calm turned to anger when she remembered how they got there. “Frank Drysdale!” Frank blushed. He loved hearing her say his name, err, should I say, shout his name? Sadie was really pissed with him. Frank stared at Sadie for the longest time. Kate was calm now. She also finally understood her brother’s actions. She started giggling.
"What are you laughing at?” Sadie asked displeased, but Kate just kept on giggling. “Oh, you’re such a baby. Why don’t you act your own age?” When Sadie was about to hit Kate, the other side of the cave blinked. It was like it was beckoning them to go farther than where they were. Kate was filled with awe. She started to run to find out what the bright lights were about.
“Yippee! There must be zillions of fireflies inside!” Kate cheered.
“Yuck! I hate fireflies!” cried Sadie, but she still followed her.
Frank stood still. Unlike the two girls, he was afraid to find out what those lights were.
“Frank, you chicken, what are you waiting for?” asked the girl of his dreams. He reluctantly followed.
In the middle of the cave there were lots of toys and candy. There were lots of cookies and pastries too.
“I feel like Gretel!” exclaimed Kate.
“Don’t tell me there’s a wicked witch out here,” Sadie said.
Frank looked to see if Sadie was finally afraid, but there was no sign of nervousness. He offered to comfort her, but she pushed him away.
“I can handle myself!” she blurted, her eyes glaring at him.
Frank was really sorry he asked. Later on soft music began to play. It was so beautiful, just like a whole chorus of angels.
“What beautiful music!” exclaimed Kate, “Did we die running? Are we in heaven?”
With that Sadie started to cry. The others looked at her. They were startled. Sadie looked so grown-up and for them, the way she cried looked rather silly.
“What’s the matter, Sadie?” asked Frank. “I’m afraid to die,” she confessed. Sadie? Afraid to die? This was new. Frank could hardly believe it. He had known Sadie since she was two and she had always been strong willed.
When he was about to ask her why she was afraid of dying, a beautiful lady dressed in white appeared in front of them. She was glowing. Sadie felt strange comfort and started to be calm. The lady wanted them to follow her and so they did. They reached a place. It seemed like paradise for the kids. They were excited, but a little bit confused. It was impossible that such a beautiful place could be inside a cave. There was a deep blue stream and the ceiling looked like a vast horizon. There were kids in white running. Some were playing. Some were merely having fun. I want to go on describing the place, but no words could describe its beauty.
“Are we in heaven?” asked Kate.
The lady in white smiled, “No Kate, we’re not in heaven.”
“You know my name…are you an angel?” Kate was so excited. In her heart she wanted her to be an angel.
“No Kate, I’m not an angel. I’m Mary, the mother of Jesus.” The three kids were awe struck. The wind started to blow, another improbability, because they were deep inside a very large cave. The music they were hearing was getting louder. This time they could see the chorus of angels.
     “Are we dead?” asked Sadie.
“No Sadie. You’re not dead,” said Mary in a very gentle voice.
“Why are we here?” asked Frank.
“I’ll show you,” said a masculine voice. It was Michael the archangel. The three kids stared at him in deep wonder. Seconds later the wall where the chorus of angels were singing turned into a giant TV screen. A movie started to play. The movie was about two kids eloping thinking they are in love. Taking their piggy banks and stealing from their parents, they were able to live in a faraway place pretending they were older .They were able to start a family a couple of years later then at their early twenties, they felt so old. As they watched their children playing they wanted to turn back the hands of time and be children again. Later, they saw an eighteen year old girl who dressed funny. She had thick make-up and she stood in an eeky manner.
     “Who’s that?” asked Kate.
“That’s the boy’s sister…when her brother eloped, she had no big brother to look up to. Her parents were so miserable that they did not have time for her,” said Michael.
Right then and there, the three kids realized that the story was about them.
“Frank, a few days from now, you’re suppose to convince Sadie that you are in love….Is missing your childhood worth it?”
Mary asked gently. Frank was too stunned to speak. Seconds later, they were in Sadie’s backyard. The cave, the angels and Mary were nowhere to be found. The three kids looked around them.  Things that happened did not make sense, but when they saw other children playing they decided to join them.
